Access Statement

 

Here is a brief statement of accessibility for visitors to Forda farm. We provide Bed & Breakfast on a working farm for up to 4 guests and are 4 star rated by Quality in Tourism (the inspection arm of Visit Britain.)

Please feel free to ask if we have not addressed any of the questions you would like answered.

 

Pre arrival

You will receive our location and directions (in paper format) on conformation of a booking or with a brochure request. Our website contains a dedicated directions page.

The nearest train station at Exeter is 45 miles away.

 

Barnstaple train station is 25 miles BUT, this is a branch line from Exeter, so it is best to hire a car in Exeter or take the bus to Holsworthy.

Bus: Take the X9 from Exeter station to Holsworthy (4 miles distant)

Bus number: X85 runs from Holsworthy to Holsworthy Beacon on the A388 this is 2 miles from Forda.

If you are arriving by bicycle, the cycling touring club Land’s End to John O’Groats route and Sustran’s route 3 are within a few miles of us and we can offer secure storage for bicycles to our guests.

 

Holsworthy info centre on (01409) 254 185 are a useful point of contact for up to date information and public transport (times tables etc)

 

Arrival and parking

We aim to meet you on arrival. Forda Farm is at the end of a 100 yard concrete lane off a parish road. We have ample car parking on a gently sloping yard.

 

There are three steps up to the main front door. One is large (9 inches) but can be accessed via a small slope, which makes it smaller at just ½ inch. Step 2 is 6 and 1/2inches and step 3 is 5 and ½ inches.

Cars may be parked in front of the door for unloading, please then park opposite the house.

We will happily help with your luggage.

 

Torridge bedroom

Accessed through its own door, 6 yards to the right of the front porch. It has a 5 and a ½ Inch step to get in the front door.

Once inside this is a spacious family room all on one level.

Sleeps 4

In 6ft double bed and 3 ft bunks, or two 3 ft singles and 3ft bunks.

Room has ensuite shower – 10 ½ inch step into shower

Shower door width of 24 inches

En suite  door width of 26 inches

Sink height of 29 inches

Toilet seat height of 16 inches

Main door width of 27 inches

 

We provide tea/coffee facilities and fresh milk. Television, radio, cd/alarm clock and hairdryer.

Central heating powered from main system. Extra heating is yours to control with a thermostatically controlled electric heater. Room is carpeted throughout.

 

Dining room

 

The outside door to the left of the front porch accesses the dining room. This is 14 yards from the bedroom. It has 1 step of

6 inches onto a plateau then another step of  8 and ½ inches into a door of 36 inches wide.

 

The dining room has two dining tables and a welsh dresser. A display stand of tourism brochures is also located here.

 

Laundry

 

We are happy to help with any emergency washing needs.

Drying of wet clothes and cycling gear can be arranged. Please ask Val for assistance with this.

 

Garden

 

A gated garden is available, to the left of the house. We have some garden furniture and a selection of garden toys and games, which may be used.

 

Farm Walks and Feeding Animals.

Our visitor’s are welcome to join us, on a walk around the farm or go by themselves CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT AT ALL TIMES.  However we do recommend long trousers and boots, as you may get muddy, walk through long grass/ thistles. We ask that all gates are left open or closed as you find them.

 

Every one must wash their hands after touching animals.

Pregnant woman should not touch pregnant sheep or newly lambed sheep and lambs.

We farm 300+ sheep and 40 –60 bullocks and have a family to look after too so we sometimes are unable to answer the phone but if you leave a message we will contact you at the first opportunity (we do not have a mobile signal here).

A car is necessary, however we are close to cycle routes.

Pubs 5 miles away at Shebbear and Brandis Corner.

Wednesday Holsworthy market bus from (Woodacott, Thornbury) leave at 10.00 am return at 1.45ish pm.
